I SAID YES TO JESUS
First, if you said “YES” to Jesus, we want to welcome you to the family of God and this New Life. We would love to hear about your decision to give your life to Jesus and follow Him.
If you are still deciding what to do, here is some information to ponder.
WHAT IS THE CHRISTIAN FAITH ALL ABOUT ANYWAY?
First of all, it is not about working hard to be good enough. It is about turning away from our sins and placing our trust in what Jesus did on the cross over 2000 years ago and continuing in that trust. We are not buying fire insurance to save us from Hell. We are entering into a relationship with the Creator of the Universe and walking with Him daily.
Many come to that “Born Again” experience and then no longer follow Jesus. In this case, it is like they are saying, “I got my ticket to Heaven, if I need you, Jesus, I will let you know.” Following Jesus is not behaving on Sunday and living like Hell the rest of the week. Jesus expects us to follow Him every day.
One might even say that I am doing better than the other guy. Or I never killed anyone. But in this case, we are using a standard of comparison to one another. Truthfully, the real standard of measurement is Jesus Christ. Jesus is the standard we have to live up to to get into Heaven. Only Jesus has ever achieved this standard of perfection. We all fall short of perfection. When we do this, it is called sin.
So what are we to do? For starters, please watch this video and see what we can learn.
The folks at Living Waters have done a great job at making things simple and easy to understand. So what have we learned from watching the video?
- We have all broken many of the 10 Commandments, which are called the Moral Law.
- We find ourselves unable to pay the price of the fine. Remember that when we sin, we are paid our wages. Those wages are death, which is separation from God.
- Jesus paid our fine on the Cross. And now God who is a just Judge can now let us legally go free. We were guilty. Jesus paid our fine. And we can now legally be allowed to go free.
I like the analogy of the parachute. We have to jump out of an airplane. There are two groups of people in this example.
Many are just jumping out and trying to save themselves by flapping their arms. This is trying to be good enough. If we can just flap our arms fast enough, we can be saved.
And then there is the other group. They put on the parachute and trust that parachute all the way to the group. They do not trust in their arms to flap fast enough. The solely trust in the parachute for salvation. They wear their parachute throughout the whole time as they drop earthward.
The only real question is this: are we a flapper or one who wears a parachute?
SO WHAT DO WE DO ABOUT OUR “SIN PROBLEM”?
The solution is as simple as A, B and C.
- A is for Admit – Admit that we are a sinner to God and Repent of our sins. Saying sorry is not good enough. We need to turn away from willingly committing sin. We cannot walk with God and continue to hold hands with the devil.
- B is for Believe – We need to believe that Jesus died on the Cross for our sins, that He rose from the dead on the third day, and is now seated in Heaven as the Son of God. Belief is more than mental assent. Belief must turn into trust. Each day we trust in what Jesus did for us and live accordingly.
- C is for Confess – We confess Jesus as not only our Saviour but our Lord. We must remember that we are not buying fire insurance. We are entering into a relationship where we know God and God knows us.
Our salvation is based on Jesus alone. At this point, once you have completed the A, B and C parts, we need to be baptized. In the Book of Acts, we are admonished to “Repent, be Baptized and we will Receive the Holy Spirit” – Acts 2. Baptism allows us to participate in the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.
We must also know that baptism does not save us. We have to repent and then be baptized, not the other way around. Infant baptism does not save. Baptism is our faithful response to our salvation. Baptism allows us to act on our newly discovered faith.
SO WHAT’S IN IT FOR US?
Our salvation should begin with a walk with God’s Holy Spirit. We should now begin building a relationship with God. Our journey should allow us to draw closer to God. Our journey should not make us religious, lemon-sucking Christians who are prone to following “Does and Don’ts”. Jesus did not come to make us Rule Followers. Jesus came to make us followers of Him.
So what’s in it for us? How about Heaven on earth now where we walk with God’s Holy Spirit daily? This does not mean that life will always be easy and money will abound. It does mean that we will have someone in life who we can walk with and build a relationship with.
